PKSB was commissioned to develop a new commercial building located in the Meat Packing District of Manhattan. 402 West 13th Street is situated a block away from the city’s busy High Line Park. The ground floor houses the building lobby and a generous sized retail space with 21 feet of prime street-side frontage. The second through fifth floors were developed for future offices, studios and workspaces. The building also features a roof terrace accessible for communal use. The building’s façade is a mix of red brick and incorporates a terracotta rain screen, with large-scale windows on the street side and a large steel and glass entrance canopy. All design work was developed by PKSB and was reviewed and approved by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and deemed an appropriate revival that mimics the aesthetic of the industrial Gansevoort Market district.
